Comparing Fractions With Same Denominators
When two fractions have the similar denominator they are easy to compare. ⇒ The fraction with the larger numerator is larger.
⇒ The fraction with the smaller numerator is smaller.
Example 1 Which is smaller: 59 or 69 ?
Answer
Since the fractions have same denominators, compare the numerators.
Benchmark fractions: Since 5 is smaller than 6, therefore 59 is smaller.
Example 2 Which is bigger: 912 or 712 ?
Answer
Since 9 is bigger than 7, therefore 912 is bigger.
